The International Student Virtual Mobility Program (ISVMP) 2024
The International Student Virtual Mobility Program (ISVMP) 2024, organized by the Office of International Affairs at UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, is a global forum for youth collaboration on sustainability and climate solutions. Held virtually on November 30th, December 1st, and December 7th, 2024, under the theme “Energizing Change: Harnessing Clean Power, Smart Consumption, and Climate Solutions for a Greener Tomorrow” with the tagline “Reimagine Today, Renew Tomorrow”. The program brought together over 100+ participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, Myanmar, and Palestine. Representing 25+ universities worldwide, the event fostered innovative ideas and global partnerships for a more sustainable future.
Day 1: Sustainability and Renewable Energy
The first day of ISVMP 2024, held on November 30th, focused on sustainability and renewable energy. The program began with a warm opening, including a reading of participant rules and the singing of Indonesia’s national anthem. Participants were also introduced to their buddies, with activities designed to encourage cross-cultural collaboration while emphasizing the importance of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Speaker 1: Aura Dhamira, S.P., M.Sc
Mrs. Aura delivered an insightful lecture on "Smart Consumption for a Sustainable Future," emphasizing the importance of reducing food waste to achieve SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. She highlighted the critical challenges of food waste in Asia and proposed actionable solutions, including promoting recycling, improving logistics, and advocating for better consumer awareness. - Speaker 2: Dr. Yohana Noradika Maharani
Dr. Yohana discussed "Renewable Energy: The Transition, and Empowering Wind and Solar Energy in Facing Climate Change in Indonesia." Her session covered Indonesia's renewable energy challenges and the urgent need for policy reform and investment in solar and wind energy to combat climate change. She underscored the potential of Indonesia’s rich renewable energy resources and called for a collaborative effort to achieve SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy. - Speaker 3: Dr. Hathaithip Sintuya
Dr. Hathaithip presented on "CMRU Smart Campus Toward SDGs," sharing inspiring innovations from her institution in Thailand. She highlighted smart energy management systems, waste bioenergy cycles, and initiatives for building a sustainable academic community that actively involves students.
Day 2: Climate Action and Collaboration
The second day, spotlighted climate action and collaborative approaches to environmental activism. Participants engaged in a project discussion with their buddies, focusing on real-world applications of sustainability principles. The day also included a breakout session for in-depth collaboration on group projects, with facilitators guiding participants to develop actionable ideas.
- Speaker 1: Syaiful Anwar, Ph.D.
Dr. Anwar addressed "SDG 13: Climate Action – A Call for Immediate Change," explaining the causes and consequences of climate change. He showcased successful initiatives like Ethiopia’s tree-planting project and Indonesia’s FOLU Net Sink 2030. Dr. Anwar also emphasized the role of individuals, organizations, and governments in combating climate change through sustainable practices. - Speaker 2: Ahmad Rif’an Khoirul Lisan
Mr. Rif’an discussed "Connecting Government, Private Business, Academics, and Environmental Communities in Environmental Activism." He explored how collaboration among diverse stakeholders can amplify efforts to address environmental issues. Mr. Rif’an shared strategies for overcoming mistrust and aligning priorities to achieve meaningful environmental impact.
Day 3: Student Presentations and Awards
The last day showcased the creativity and innovation of the participants through group presentations. Each team presented solutions addressing sustainability challenges, which were evaluated by an esteemed adjudicator panel. Presentations covered topics such as renewable energy innovations, climate action projects, and waste management solutions.
The day concluded with an engaging award ceremony to celebrate the outstanding efforts of the participants. Fun activities, including games and cultural exchanges, added a festive atmosphere, leaving participants motivated and inspired for future action.
